Flowers have always been something that fascinates me, ever since I was little I was always curious about the flowers I saw around me. There has always been a strong connection between me, my family and flowers. Translating these beautiful pieces of nature into paintings is an ode to them and how they fueled my curiosity.
My painting process can be best described as structured chaos: naples yellow transform into daffodils, dioxinion purple into irises. The botanical paintings I create play with figure-ground relationships merging abstraction and realism, geometric and organic. I use highly saturated colors to match the vibrancy of the real blooms. In the studio, I feel like I can breathe, I am calm. There is a method to my madness, my process leads me to creating contrast between the detailed depth of reality and the flattened blocks of color. The fusion of these elements allows me to bridge realism with my love of geometric abstraction. As the color evolves, each painting evolves. I jump from place to place on the canvas, flitting like a little butterfly from flower to flower deciding which to pick.
